IL - The ability to assess the information requirements of complex projects, to identify potential textual, visual and electronic resources, to obtain the needed information, to interpret, evaluate, synthesize, organize, and use that information regardless of format, while adhering strictly to the legal and ethical guidelines governing information access in today's society.

• Consider what colleagues in your discipline are doing about IL
• Locate materials to help you teach IL
• Research what IL means to your discipline and courses

FOR YOUR STUDENTS...

• Attach credit to any IL component of student work
• Give document based assignments or tests that include finding articles in a database
• Have students hunt through an assigned study guide to retrieve specific guidelines
• Incorporate an annotated bibliography assignment with specific requirements (e.g. find and use scholarly sources) – to be turned in BEFORE the assignment
• Make evaluating the web fun, surprising, ironic
• Quiz students' information research skills based on a specific assigned tutorial
