Types of Instruction Available
Lecture and Lecture-Discussion
A broad range of courses are offered for students who learn best
in a structured instructional environment. Course offerings include: a complete
sequence of developmental mathematics (Basic Mathematics, Pre-Algebra, Beginning
and Intermediate Algebra), College Algebra, PreCalculus courses, the Calculus
sequence, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, Statistics, Finite Math,
Fundamentals of Arithmetic (for prospective teachers) and Math: A Practical Art.
Computer Aided
Instruction
(Teacher led - using computers)
These are courses that utilize an interactive software called
Mediated Learning. Mediated Learning provides you with a rich, comprehensive
instruction and interactive learning environment. Each Academic Systems course
is a comprehensive set of software lessons that use text, sound, graphics,
animation and video. . You get immediate feedback as you learn and practice the
skills. An instructor is present in the classroom and provides one-on-one help
when needed. This is not a self-paced course, but does allow you to repeat
lectures and quizzes, etc. until you know them well. Academic Systems is an
alternative to lecture-based courses that works well for many students. The
following courses are taught every quarter. Course offerings include:

Online Instruction
(Teacher led - using the internet)
If your schedule doesn’t allow you to come to class daily,
this gives you the opportunity to learn math at home with a minimal number of
visits to campus. Courses offered include: Beginning Algebra, Intermediate
Algebra, Math: A Practical Art, and Statistics (Math 91, Math
97, Math 107, Math 111, and Math 210). The algebra courses use Academic
Systems.
