"How to" Tips:
Page Description
The page description, often seen and used in
search results, is found in an HTML component called a meta tag.
The index, or home page, of your web should have a description
meta tag. It is optional to have a description for
every page of your web.
Guidelines for Creating the Description
-
There is no limit on the length of the
description.
-
Emphasize words you think visitors might use
to find your department/service.
-
It's OK to repeat words used in your title -
college name, department name - but try to elaborate on what
your department does, for whom etc.
-
Example: Access Services at Highline
Community College directly assists students
with emotional, physical, visual, hearing, learning or
ADD, ADHA disabilities by providing classroom and campus
accommodations.
-
Often, an easy way to create your description tag is to
take the first sentence or two of body copy from your web page
and use that for the meta description content.
How to Create the Description Meta Tag
-
With your web page open in FrontPage, place the cursor in the middle section of
your page
-
Right click, choose "Page Properties"
-
In the pop up box, look for the box with the
title "description". Type/paste your description in this box.
-
Click OK.
