| There is no "Good Life" or "Bad Life"; there
is just life. What we are is a sum of our perceptions of our past
experiences. We have been given a gift. That gift is life. We can CHOOSE to learn
from our experiences, good and bad, and apply the knowledge proactively or we can choose
to experience life as a 'victim' or 'loser' who has no control of what happens to us (it's
not MY fault, she/he made me......., when I was a child my
mother/father/sister/brother/uncle/etc. did .....) We are responsible for ourselves. Happiness lies within. It is a state of mind not something that can be bought or handed to us. Those that think otherwise fool only themselves. Money is not happiness. Yes, it is nice but there are many unhappy, lonely, drug-addicted (read Sports stars here) millionaires. Only when we take charge of our life, bring into our life those we love, and remove from our life those persons and things that prevent us from reaching our potential, can we find happiness. I CHOOSE to enjoy my life. To treasure the good experiences and try to learn from the bad. I'm not going to let the weather, the idiot that cut me off on the freeway, etc. determine my mood or whether I'm having a good day or bad. That doesn't mean that things don't 'get to me'; it means that I'm not going to focus on those things and allow them to affect my ability to enjoy the days I have. We all suffer from stresses in our lives. We must find constructive ways to eliminate them. When we feel that we are about to respond inappropriately or illegally due to stress, we need to STOP and THINK. Ask "why do I feel that way?" "In the priorities of life, where does this rate?" Only then, should we act. My teaching style reflects my philosophy. That is: Life is what you make it. In my view, my job as a teacher, is to help you to take responsibility for your own learning. I am a facilitator who will help you in your quest to meet your professional goals. I encourage all students to explore their learning environment and, while you do, discover your inner resources and those external resources that may assist you to achieve your maximum potential. Rich or poor, all of us are given 168 hours each week. We may use those hours to enrich our lives, personally and professionally, focusing on the tools we possess and learning how to best use those tools to our advantage or we may choose to use the hours to complain about how hard life is and focus on all we don't have. I choose to be proactive. To use the tools I have to improve my life and the lives of those around me. We need to love. Love what you do and how you do it. Love those closest to us and express that love in positive ways. And love those friends and co-workers around us for helping us to achieve our goals. We cannot achieve our goals without the love and support of those around us. So, as a student in my class, you can expect me to identify class requirements, schedule events, and facilitate your learning of the skills and concepts necessary in today's information-centric employment. I will expect you to budget your time proactively, take an active role in your learning, and take responsibility and hold yourself accountable for your choices.. |
