Writing 101:  Principles of Writing

Course Overview

Writing 101 is designed to help students develop essay writing skills.  Since reading and writing are intertwined, we will be doing a lot of writing that responds to what you have read.  The principles of writing are based on how to write effectively.  This includes how to begin with a point or thesis statement, how to support the thesis with specific evidence, revising, and editing.  In addition to communicating with others, we learn how writing is a process of discovery about what we think and how to express ideas about all aspects of life.
